The Chulus are the group of summits standing over the north side of the Manang valley, and Chulu Far East is the friendliest of them. Base camp is a half day above the Circuit trail, the route is a snow ridge with one short steep section and a fixed line near the top, and the whole thing slots into an Annapurna Circuit itinerary without adding an enormous amount of time. Because the Circuit does the acclimatization for you — you have already spent a week walking up to Manang at 3,500 m — the summit success rate here is among the highest of any 6,000 m peak in Nepal.

The team reaches the mountain by a drive to Besisahar and a five-day Annapurna Circuit trek through Chame and Pisang to Manang, then up to base camp below the Chulus.
The walk-in is paced for acclimatization rather than speed — short days, controlled altitude gain and rest days where the profile needs them.
We establish Chulu Far East Base Camp (4,900 m) with dining, kitchen and toilet tents, and run a full training session on snow — crampons, ice axe, self-arrest and moving as a rope team — before anyone goes higher.
Your climbing permit — Climbed on the Chulu East (NMA Group B) permit — is arranged and paid for long before you arrive.
The team moves up to establish high camp, carrying loads and sleeping high before dropping back to rest.
Meanwhile the climbing Sherpas fix rope on the steeper ground above.
When the forecast gives a usable window the team leaves high camp in the dark for the summit of Chulu Far East (6,059 m) via the East ridge.
After the summit we descend all the way to base camp the same day.
