Trek Overview

The Langtang Valley trek is the closest alpine trekking journey from Kathmandu. The trail leads you through the dense oak and rhododendron forests of Langtang National Park into a pristine glacier valley inhabited by Tamang and Bhotia communities. Since its reconstruction after the 2015 earthquake, the region boasts well-equipped and welcoming tea houses. Key highlights of the trek include the spiritual Kyanjin Gompa (3,830m), the historic local Yak Cheese Factory, and a climb up Cherko Ri (4,984m) for stunning 360-degree vistas of Langtang Lirung (7,227m) and other snow-capped giants.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, you will be met and transferred to your hotel in Thamel. The rest of the day is spent on trek preparation, equipment checks, permit processing, and a welcome briefing with your guide. Overnight in Kathmandu (1,400m).
We drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi in Rasuwa district by tourist bus or private jeep (approx. 6-7 hours). The route winds through hillsides and follows the Trishuli River, offering beautiful mountain vistas.
Today we begin our trek. We cross the Bhote Koshi River and hike along the banks of the Langtang Khola. The trail climbs through dense forests of oak, maple, and bamboo to reach Lama Hotel. Approx. 6-7 hrs.
We continue climbing through forests, emerging at Ghodatabela where there is a national park checkpoint. The valley widens as we pass yak pastures and traditional stone houses, arriving at the beautifully rebuilt Langtang Village. Approx. 5-6 hrs.
The trail ascends gently through yak pastures and small villages. We pass large mani walls and chortens to arrive at Kyangjin Gompa, surrounded by massive peaks. Here, we can visit the monastery and the famous local yak cheese factory. Approx. 2-3 hrs.
Today we embark on a challenging acclimatization climb to Tserko Ri (4,984m), the highest viewpoint of our trek. The effort is rewarded with breathtaking, unobstructed views of over 20 Himalayan peaks and glaciers, including Langtang Lirung (7,227m). We return to Kyangjin Gompa for the night. Approx. 7-8 hrs.
We begin our return journey, descending along the same trail. We walk down through Langtang Village and Ghodatabela, arriving back at Lama Hotel. The downhill walk is much faster and easier. Approx. 6-7 hrs.
From Lama Hotel, we descend through forest and then climb to the charming traditional village of Thulo Syabru (2,210m). The village offers lovely views of the surrounding hills and valley below. Approx. 5-6 hrs.
We descend from Thulo Syabru to the district headquarters of Dhunche (1,960m). We celebrate the successful completion of our trek with our guide and porters in the evening. Approx. 3-4 hrs.
We take a bus or private jeep from Dhunche back to Kathmandu (approx. 5-6 hours). Upon arrival in Kathmandu, check into your hotel. Farewell dinner in Thamel in the evening.

★★★★★

"A perfect short trek when you don't have two weeks to spare. Kyanjin Gompa's cheese factory and the views from Tserko Ri felt every bit as rewarding as the longer treks we'd done before."
