Lobuche East is the connoisseur's alternative to Island Peak, and quite a few people who have climbed both prefer it. The south ridge is steeper and more sustained than Island's headwall — more time on the fixed line, more genuine exposure, a summit that is a proper ridge rather than a plateau — and the position is extraordinary. From high camp you look straight across the Khumbu glacier at Nuptse; from the summit ridge, at Everest itself. One thing worth knowing before you book: the true summit of Lobuche East is separated from the commonly climbed fore-summit by a corniced traverse, and we plan the day around reaching the real one.
TerraBlaze runs this climb end to end: the NMA permit and park fees, the trek in, a fully staffed base camp, a licensed climbing guide and a climbing Sherpa on summit day, fixed rope on the steep ground and an evacuation plan filed before you land. You bring the fitness — we handle everything else.
