The Journey

Trek Overview & Route

The Annapurna Circuit trek is globally renowned as one of the most diverse and thrilling trekking loops. The trail follows the Marsyangdi River valley into the high-altitude trans-Himalayan region of Manang, where villages steeped in Tibetan-influenced Buddhist culture await — along with a side trip to pristine Tilicho Lake (4,920m), one of the highest lakes in the world. The ultimate challenge is crossing the formidable Thorong La Pass (5,416m), before descending to the sacred pilgrimage site of Muktinath and the windswept Kali Gandaki valley.

  • Route: Chame → Manang → Tilicho Lake → Thorong La (5,416m) → Muktinath → Pokhara
  • Acclimatization: Ice Lake hike (4,600m) from Manang before the high crossing
  • Difficulty: hard — the most diverse landscapes of any Nepal trek, earned at altitude

Frequently Asked Questions

The pass day is the hardest of the trek: a 3:00 AM start, several hours of steady climbing to 5,416m, then a long descent to Muktinath — around 9-10 hours in total. Temperatures can drop as low as -10°C (14°F), so windproof outerwear, heavy thermal layers and proper winter gloves and hats are absolutely essential.
Yes. Days 6-8 are dedicated to the Tilicho side trip — trekking via Khangsar and Siri Kharka to Tilicho Base Camp, then hiking up to the lake at 4,920m, one of the highest lakes in the world, before rejoining the main circuit at Yak Kharka. If you prefer a shorter trek, we can customize the route to skip it.
Spring (March-May) and autumn (October-November) offer stable weather and the safest conditions on Thorong La. In winter the pass is frequently closed by snow, and monsoon rains obscure views along the southern sections of the loop.
Yes. You must obtain a comprehensive travel insurance policy covering emergency helicopter rescue up to 6,000 meters before arrival — this is strictly required for all trekkers crossing Thorong La, where evacuation is only possible by air.
Due to the extreme altitude, this trek is physically demanding. You should train with regular cardio — running, cycling or stair climbing — in the months before departure. We do not recommend this itinerary to individuals with pre-existing heart or respiratory conditions.
